Eligibility
 
To be eligible for an Interdependency visa you must:
  • be sponsored by an eligible person
  • be at least 18 years or older at time of application
  • not be within a prohibited degree of relationship (A relationship between a person and his or her ancestor/descendant (ie. between a parent and a child or grandparent and a grandchild) or between a brother and a sister (full or half blood.) This applies to natural and adoptive relationships) with your sponsor (your partner)
  • show that you and your partner have a mutual commitment to a shared life to the exclusion of all others
  • show that you have a genuine and continuing relationship with your partner
  • show that you and your partner have been in your interdependent relationship for the entire 12 months immediately prior to making your application.
  • show that you and your partner are living together or, if not, that any separation is only temporary
  • meet health and character requirements.
If you are granted a temporary Interdependency visa, you will:
  • have permission to travel to and from Australia until a decision is made on your permanent visa application
  • be able to work in Australia
  • be eligible to enroll in Medicare if you are in Australia
